Spiritual Direction offers a safe space to explore questions, wonderings and concerns in life with God, and to foster awareness of self and God through "holy listening." God is at work everywhere (often in unnoticed ways) and by giving time, space and silence for a slower contemplative pace, a person can begin to recognize the interior movements of the Spirit and understand their importance. The Spiritual Director’s role is one of a trained spiritual companion who offers an invitation to notice, asks questions, listens deeply to life stories and bears witness to another’s spiritual journey. At its heart, Spiritual Direction is a ministry of hospitality--seeing, welcoming and accepting "the other" as well as companioning alongside one another, as Jesus exemplified in the story of the Emmaus Road in Luke 24. It is here that Jesus walks at the pace of the disheartened travelers, listening, consoling and imparting wisdom. Spiritual Direction offers space for The Spirit to do these same things.
